PPSA update - commencement of the PPSA
As of today, 30 January 2012:
- The Personal Property Securities Act 2009 (Cth) is in effect.
Talbot Olivier advises Global Energy Group on the significant acquisition of Global Resources Network.
Talbot Olivier advised Scottish based Global Energy Group on its recent acquisition of West Perth based energy sector recruitment business, GRN Australiasia Pty Ltd trading as Global Resources Network (GRN). The acquisition was valued at about $20 million.
AILA Conference - Perth 2011
The 2011 Australian Insurance Law Association (AILA) Conference was held in Perth at the Hyatt Regency between 19-21 October. Talbot Olivier was a silver sponsor of the event and Principal, Roger Sands the Covenor. The conference was boasted by over 200 delegates and high profile speakers from the insurance, medical and legal professions.

As most people will be aware, there have been two fraudulent sales of property in Western Australia recently and one foiled attempt. The targets thus far appear to be unencumbered investment properties under management with the owners residing overseas.

Occupational health and safety (OHS) - June 2011
On 1 January 2012, new national OHS laws take effect. These new laws provide far greater exposure for individual company directors and management, who will be subject to new compliance obligations and will be required to implement formal due diligence frameworks.

Louis van Aardt and Russell Morley of this firm are currently advising and assisting the Australian Government Attorney General's Department with its system acceptance testing of the Personal Property Securities Act 2009 (Cth) (PPSA).
Western Australia's first Surrogacy Arrangement approved - September 2010

West Australian Immigration Alliance (WAIMA) initiative - August 2010
